Corporate Social Responsibility

Sustainable development

Corporate Social Responsibility and certainly more environmentally-friendly business are increasingly becoming aspects of business which simply cannot be ignored. And so, sustainable leasing is much more than merely a vogue word, but is a concept which can/must be part of your CSR business philosophy. At Arval, as within the BNP Paribas group, there is a strong awareness of the need for sustainable development and a desire to achieve it. We also exercise these principles every day in our behaviour, strategy, and all our activities.

One of the major pillars of Arval’s service is giving advice. Here, too, we apply our sustainable philosophy. We regard it as our job not only to advise you at an economic level, but also at an ecological and social level. The Arval Mobility Observatory, one of Arval’s research initiatives, also contributes in this respect. For Arval, Socially Responsible Leasing is a long-term engagement in which we aim to succeed and to share our success with you!

Arval has always been striving to combine quality of services with social responsibility. We aim to reduce our impact on the environment, make use of sustainable energy resources and advise and create awareness at our clients and suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of our fleet.  Sustainability is an integral part of the DNA of our corporate policy and is reflected in day-to-day operations.

    Arval Belgium is committed to:

    • Comply with the environmental legislation and other environmental commitments taken by BNP Paribas Group.
    • Achieving the environmental objectives set by the Bank and BNP Paribas Group:
      • reduce the CO2 emissions related to energy consumption of our buildings and business travel by means of numerous technical and organizational measures;
      • reduce paper consumption and stimulate the use of sustainable paper through the implementation of a stricter paper and printing policy; and
    • Waste prevention and the implementation of extensive waste separation.
    • Prevent pollution and protect the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems.
    • Reduce the consumption of raw materials and use more sustainable and renewable materials

We strive for a continuous improvement of our environmental performance, maintain our environmental management system and regularly monitor our environmental key performance indicators. The level of our commitment is evidenced by numerous initiatives throughout the organization.

Since 2010, Arval resides in a low-energy building which is notably equipped with solar panels on the roof as well as multiple other technologies aimed at reducing energy consumption. These installations and the technical and material means used for its construction, have earned the building BREEAM certification. Through various carbon reduction projects we continuously aim to reduce our carbon footprint and Arval participates with the CO² Logic program to compensate the CO² emissions of our fleet elsewhere in the world.

We continually aim to reduce the CO2 emissions of our customer fleet by advising our clients, training and creating awareness with our drivers and offering multiple mobility solutions.  Arval is also a member of the Sustainable Repair Foundation, whose mission statement is to identify environmentally friendly automotive companies based on objective criteria.

At Arval, we take pride in our environmental commitment and are proud holders of the ISO 14001 certification.

  • ISO 14001:2015

ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. ISO 14001:2015 is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.

ISO 14001:2015 helps an organization achieve the intended outcomes of its environmental management system, which provide value for the environment, the organization itself and interested parties. Consistent with the organization's environmental policy, the intended outcomes of an environmental management system include: enhancement of environmental performance; fulfilment of compliance obligations; achievement of environmental objectives.

Duurzaam repareren VZW's mission is to measure whether or not an automotive business can be considered as 'environment friendly' and if they actively contribute to environmental maintenance and repairing of motorized vehicles, in the broadest sense.

"Corporate Social Responsability (CSR) and especially doing business environmentally-friendly is becoming a crucial part of a company. Sustainable leasing is not just a trend, but has to be part of the core values of the CSR policy. Sustainable development has a strong presence within Arval and is an active goal we try to achieve. We therefore carry out these principles in our behavior, our strategy and all our initiatives on a daily basis. That is why we have also decided to join the Sustainable Repair initiative (Duurzaam Repareren / Réparer Durablement)"

  • C02 Logic

Protecting the environment must be the top priority to secure the future of our planet. We are working directly on our energy consumption and construction materials, office furniture and IT equipment, as well as paper and water consumption, waste management and our carbon footprint associated with travelling.

We are also committed to reducing our fleet's CO2 emissions by choosing vehicles that consume less fuel and by training our employees in eco/safe-driving, and we have also been offsetting our unavoidable CO2 emissions since 2008 with the collaboration of our partner CO2logic.

Between 2008 and 2019, we have already offset 5300 tonnes of CO2. We supported an initial project in Malawi, then in Tanzania between 2008 and 2012, as well as a project in Uganda called "Saving Trees", from 2013 to mid-2018.  This project facilitated widespread access to improved furnace technologies across the country by creating small companies with local craftspeople. In total, a little over 2600 Ugandan families saw an improvement in their living conditions while reducing their consumption of wood. Since mid-2018 we have taken a decision to be involved with a new project called "Safe Water Supply" in Eritrea with the aim of restoring wells to provide the local population with clean water without having to burn wood. Over 520 people now have access to drinking water every day.

Our involvement in these projects helps to reduce CO2 consumption, support sustainable development and drive socio-economic development in these developing countries, and the benefits are global!

Twice a year, CO2logic provides us with our CO2-neutral Label certified by Vinçotte. We are proud of this label and what it represents.
