AdBlue

  • What is AdBlue®?

AdBlue is a biologically degradable mixture that has been used by most automobile manufacturers since the introduction of the Euro 6 emission standard to reduce the noxious emissions from their diesel engines. In the meantime, AdBlue technology has become common in diesel cars.

  • Where is my AdBlue tank located?

AdBlue tankYou can look up the location of the AdBlue tank in the user manual. In recent cars with AdBlue technology, this blue cap is right next to the fuel cap. In older models, the AdBlue tank is under the engine hood or in the boot.

  • Does my car use AdBlue?

AdBlue is used mainly in cars with Euro 6 diesel engines.

The major car brands that use AdBlue in certain models are Audi, BMW, Citroën, Ford, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes, Opel, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Toyota and Volkswagen.

  • When should I replenish the AdBlue tank?

As soon as the action radius falls under 2400 km, the on-board computer gives an automatic warning. When the AdBlue tank is completely empty, the car cannot be started again, even after the tank has been filled. The tank must therefore be replenished as soon as possible by the driver:

    • Either at the pump

Various petrol stations offer the possibility to fill up with AdBlue. You will find the AdBlue installation in the vicinity of the fuel installation for passenger cars. Please note: You must not fill up with AdBlue from the installation for trucks. They have a higher filling rate that could damage the filling tank.

    • Or with an AdBlue bottle

You can buy an AdBlue bottle in the petrol station shop. This bottle has a handy screw cap that can be screwed onto the filling opening of the car. As soon as the tank is full, the screw cap stops filling automatically. We advise you to buy a bottle with a content that corresponds to the volume of your car’s AdBlue tank.

The dealer no longer fills the AdBlue tank automatically when performing maintenance on the car, because filling up with AdBlue is no longer part of standard maintenance.

  • How do I fill up my AdBlue tank?

You fill up with at least 4 litres when your AdBlue tank is empty. If the tank overflows, AdBlue can crystalize and clog the filler neck. So, fill up the tank only when the indicator lamp warns you to fill up.

  • How can I pay for AdBlue?

    • The AdBlue refill can be paid for by using the Arval Fuel Card, directly at the pump or in the shop. Please note! There is no microchip in the Arval Fuel Card, unlike a normal bank card. You can only pay with the Arval Fuel Card if you swipe the card through the payment terminal. During the payment process you are also requested to enter the correct mileage of your car.
    • • You can also pay with most other fuel cards. If you do not have a fuel card, you can use our digital declaration form, which allows you to upload your receipts through our website.
  • With AdBlue, are precautionary measures needed when it is very cold?

AdBlue crystalizes at -11C° but extra precautionary measures at such a temperature are not needed. Each car has an automatic heating system that makes AdBlue liquid again.

  • What happens to the AdBlue if my car is stationary for several months?

AdBlue remains effective for more than a year. However, we advise you to empty the tank and to renew the AdBlue fluid if the car was not sufficiently driven or was left stationary.
