Mobility Week? We are making it a Mobility Month!

The annual European Mobility Week will take place from 16 - 22 September. The theme in 2023? Save Energy.

However, at Arval we believe that we can never save enough energy. And that is why we are not settling with just a Mobility Week but, rather, a Mobility Month.

Throughout September, we shall be going on a road trip with all kinds of tips & tricks to help you save energy both on the road and at home. We’re off on our ride!

Arval Mobility Week 2023

Stage 1: Saving energy … with the car

We recently celebrated our 100,000th vehicle on Belgium’s roads at Arval. By giving you some useful tips, we can all ensure considerable energy savings on the road together. These three driving habits are essential:

Drive defensively

As they say, slow and steady wins the race;-)

Anticipate stopping

Red light ahead? Let your car gradually come to a halt and save 30% energy

Turn off your engine when you are stationary

You not only save energy, but also reduce emissions!

Stage 2: Save energy … at home

Of course, you save the most energy by not moving. Tips for saving energy at home? You have no doubt seen quite a few of them come and go in recent years. So, for Mobility Month, we are not saying that you can turn the thermostat down a degree or so, or that you should not forget to turn the lights off, but that you:

  • can take a cold shower every now and then. The water does not need to be heated and you are guaranteed to start the working day fresh, cheerful and fully concentrated. It’s also great for your blood circulation.
  • It is best to turn off your computer or laptop when you end your working day and of course also the lights in your home office.
Pro tip: Make your home office smart. With a smart power strip, for example, you can automate everything in terms of energy consumption and monitor it conveniently!
  • The best thing is to throw your printer out and go paperless.
Pro tip: invest in a tablet with a smart pen (or ask your boss to invest in one), so you can have the super convenience of signing documents digitally.
  • You should place your desk in a room with sufficient natural light.
  • You can plant trees and shrubs in your garden to provide the necessary shade for your home on hot summer days. You will however need to give the time to grow.
  • You can create your own vegetable garden. Snacking during the home-working day will then never have been so healthy, and you do not have to go shopping!
  • It is also best not to buy too many electrical appliances (besides energy-efficient ones) for your household. An XXL oven or 12 kg capacity washing machine when you live alone, why? :-)
  • It is best to switch off the oven and hobs a few minutes before the end of the cooking time.

Stage 3: Save energy … at the office

Did you go to the office today? Then, as an exemplary colleague, you naturally save energy in exactly the same way as in your home office. Finally, we would like to give you a few additional tips:

  • Wear several layers of clothing and always take a sweater with you, so the air conditioning can be turned down a degree or two.
  • Avoid unnecessary printing there as well, of course.
  • Use the stairs instead of the lift: you use up more energy, and the lift a lot less.
  • Smartphone or laptop fully charged? Then unplug the charging cable.
  • Find colleagues for carpooling. This can of course also be fun.

Stage 4: Saving energy … with other means of transport

Leave the car at home for a change (maybe more than just once)? That is also possible, and of course saves a considerable amount of energy. You may use up a little more energy pedalling or talking to your fellow travellers…
