Purchase or hand-in - Frequently Asked Questions
Purchase or hand-in
The vehicle must be clean and returned with the official documents, the accessories and the keys. The tank does not need to be full. The vehicle can always be returned with summer tyres. Between October 1st and April 30th inclusive, it can also be returned with winter tyres.
You can find more information in our restitution guide.
If you are interested in buying back your lease vehicle, fill in and send us the following form. We will calculate the buyback price, which we will send you by email.
Three months before the contract expires, or three months before the date on which your new lease vehicle is delivered.
The procedure involves the official driver of the vehicle for the duration of the leasing contract and the future buyer of the vehicle at the end of the leasing contract.
Only six steps and the vehicle is yours!
Step 1. Click on the button “accept the offer” in the email that you will receive from usedcar@arval.be.
Step 2. Send us the offer document with the buyer’s details as well as a copy of the front and back of the buyer’s identity card if he/she is a private individual.
Step 3. Arval will then send the buyer a purchase order to send back to us once it has been accepted and signed.
Step 4. Arval must receive the payment five weeks before the date on which the new owner takes over the car. The payment needs a notification of
- the registration number;
- and the buyer’s name.
Once the payment has been received, Arval will send the driver the following by registered mail:
- a document entitling the vehicle to a free technical inspection;
- the second part of the registration certificate.
Step 5. The driver will ensure that the car has undergone the compulsory technical inspection for the sale. He/she must book an appointment at an approved test centre for this. A list will be provided.
- Once the car has passed the technical inspection, the registration application document should be sent to the buyer, who will present it to his/her insurer. Please note, the registration application is only valid for two months!
-
The driver must then send a copy of the Car-Pass and the notice of de-registration to usedcar@arval.be.
-
If the buyer is a private individual and he/she wishes to benefit from the Touring breakdown cover, he/she must send the new registration number to usedcar@arval.be.
Step 6. The file is then closed with Arval, who will send it to the buyer:
- the purchase invoice
- a document with instructions to follow in the case of a warranty.
Our maintenance department will also send an email to the buyer and the tyre centre confirming the release of the set of winter or summer tyres linked to this vehicle by the former leasing contract. The buyer can then arrange an appointment with the tyre centre to pick up this set.
No. In the event of a purchase, you are aware of the vehicle's condition and the return process is cancelled, and you keep the vehicle until the end of the buyback procedure.
Yes, for the purchase of your lease vehicle, you must first have the technical inspection carried out. This can only take place after the full payment of the vehicle to Arval. Upon receipt of the payment, the necessary documents required for the inspection will be sent by registered post.
In this case, there are 2 scenarios.
- If the annual technical inspection is due before the technical inspection for a sale, you have to have both done.
- However, if the annual technical inspection is due after the technical inspection for a sale, you only have to have the sale inspection done.
If the vehicle is given a red card, this certificate has a limited validity of 2 weeks, you should therefore contact a garage as soon as possible to have this problem resolved. After the repair, the vehicle must be re-offered to the inspection station that rejected the vehicle. In the event of excessively high repair costs, Arval has the right to cancel the sale.
You cannot reuse the Arval plate for registration under your own name; an existing or new plate in the buyer's name is required.
Damage must be repaired during the term of the lease agreement, under the terms of the insurance agreement. You do not have any right to repairs in the context of the takeover of the vehicle after the end of the agreement.
Yes, if the dashboard indicates that maintenance is required. Our technical service must approve that maintenance. When booking the appointment, you must inform the garage that it concerns a maintenance in a vehicle buyback.
Yes, if Arval has invited you to swap the tyres.
Any accidental damage must be declared according to the insurance conditions. If the vehicle is declared a total loss, the sale will be cancelled.
No, once the end-of-contract process has been initiated, the vehicle can no longer be removed from this process.
No, the offer that you have received is fixed. Arval cannot act as an intermediary for the sale.
If the vehicle is bought by a private individual, the vehicle comes with a one-year warranty. Once the buyback procedure has been completed, the buyer will receive all the instructions concerning this warranty by email.
If the vehicle is bought by a private individual, you can enjoy 1 year of Touring for free, for this you need to notify us of your new license plate. This breakdown service will be then activated.

You should follow the instructions in place for returning your vehicle with your employer.
The vehicle can always be returned with summer tyres. Between October 1st and April 30th inclusive, it can also be returned with winter tyres.
During a remote inspection, an independent expert will inspect the vehicle at the end of the contract to check for any potential damage before it is returned. This is defined in the contract with the employer. The inspection will take place at a place and time to suit you.
You can submit your request by email or by phone. If you book an appointment with the garage for the delivery of your new vehicle, you must always allow an additional five working days. This period is required for organising the inspection.
