Laws and regulations

We would like to inform you of a recent legal amendment. This has a limited impact on the insurance premiums within your leasing contracts.
What has changed?
In accordance with the program law of May 30, 2026 (published on June 1, 2026), the general tax on insurance operations has been increased by 0.35%. This measure applies to the entire Belgian insurance market for all premiums with a due date starting from July 1, 2026.
What impact does this have on your fleet?
The change applies to premiums for third-party liability, legal assistance, and personal accident insurance for the driver (PAI).
- Third-party liability: Total taxes and contributions increase from 27.10% to 27.45% (for light trucks, from 22.10% to 22.45%).
- Legal assistance and PAI: The tax evolves from 16.75% to 17.10%.
For illustration: for a passenger car with a net annual premium of EUR 500 for third-party liability, the increase is approximately EUR 1.75 per year (approx. EUR 0.15 per month).
You have a leasing contract with Arval insurance? What does this concretely mean for you?
- No action required: The adjustment will happen automatically. The change will take effect at Arval shortly and will then be visible on your lease invoice.
- Fiscal measure: This is a federal tax increase and not a commercial rate adjustment by the insurer or Arval.
- Terms: Your guarantees, coverages, and contract terms remain completely unchanged.
- Contractual: As this is a legal tax increase, this change does not entitle you to a free interim termination of your contract.
