Holidaytips

How can you prepare your car holiday? You can find a few tips here!

The countdown has started: you’ll soon be able to head for the sun again in your car! You've selected the perfect holiday, the ideal accommodation and can’t wait to get started. But how can you make the most of your trip? Prepare well for your departure so that you can avoid pitfalls. We’re pleased to offer you a few tips on how to reach your destination quickly.

Set off calmly and safely

  1. Check the general condition of your car:
    • tyre wear and pressures;
    • fluid levels;
    • mirror adjustment;
    • operation of the lights (indicators, headlamps and other lights).
  2. Take the identity documents of all family members, your driving license and the valid vehicle documents (e.g. white card) with you.
  3. Is the mandatory equipment present in your car? Make sure you have a safety triangle, first-aid box, fire extinguisher and hi-viz vests.
  4. Take face masks and hand sanitiser with you.
  5. Are you taking your four-legged friend with you on holiday? If so, don't forget the European passport.
  6. Distribute the luggage evenly across the car and so that nothing can shift. A badly loaded car poses a danger on the road!
  7. Consider a roofbox or trailer if you are taking a very large amount of luggage.
  8. Don't forget that you need a suitable luggage carrier for electric bicycles.
  9. Have sunglasses, a bottle of water and something to eat for yourself and the other passengers to hand.
  10. Take a few books and games with you to keep the children entertained during the journey.
  11. Build in sufficient breaks to rest and have something to eat.

Are you travelling abroad?

  1. Check whether you can go abroad with your lease car.
  2. Has your country of destination, and the countries you will be travelling through, opened their borders to foreign tourists? Take a look at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for more information about the situation in each country.
  3. What are the traffic rules in the country you are travelling to and the countries you will be crossing? Avoid fines and make sure you are well informed. You can find all the information you need about mobility and traffic regulations in European countries through this link. Select a country and then click on ‘Driving in...’.
  4. Is your country of destination, and countries you travel through, not listed on your white insurance card? Then get in touch with our insurance department (if this is included in your lease contract) or with your own insurance company.
  5. Request your Drive Certificate if you are travelling outside the Schengen Area or the EU. Please request this via Renta Drive. It will take three to five working days
  6. Find the nearest filling station abroad by using the NFC website or app, if you have an NFC card.
  7. Do you drive an electric vehicle? If so, find the nearest charging station by using the 50five e-mobility (Numobi) app or Luminus Easy Charging if you have an charging card.

  8. Are you driving with all-season or winter tyres with an M+S marking and a lower speed index? Then you must adjust your speed and put a sticker with the limit on your car. The sticker is available at your garage, tyre supplier or car (web)shop. Don't forget: these tyres are only permitted from 1 October to 30 April. This also applies in other countries such as Italy.

Don't forget to download the My Arval Mobile app

With this app, you have all information on your lease car at hand. In just one click, you will be in contact with Arval Service Center and will have immediate access to

  • all essential data and documents of your car (power of attorney authorising you to drive the car and the white insurance card if you are insured by Arval); and
  • an overview of the maintenance and/or repair history of your car.
  • requesting assistance via the app. When you click on Arval Assistance, you will be directly connected. This allows you to quickly request an intervention.

If you break down along the way

Call Arval Assistance on +32 2 245 73 72 or your own assistance (if assistance is not included in your contract). To avoid stress, save the assistance number and the European emergency number (112) in your phone.

Do you need assistance abroad? Ask the garage to contact the Arval entity of the country you are in to arrange invoicing. Arval will take care of the repair costs and in most cases you do not have to pay anything in advance.

Problems with your charging card? Call Numobi or Luminus directly and they will help you straight away.

We wish you a pleasant holiday!
