The five most ordered company cars are rechargeable

Arval 8 Aug 2023

Four fully electric cars, three plug-in hybrids and three petrols. This is what the top 10 most ordered company cars look like during the first half of 2023, according to the analysis by mobility solutions company Arval. More than 6 out of 10 vehicles ordered are vehicles that require a charging station or charging solution. In fact, for the first time the entire top 5 consists of rechargeable vehicles, diesel cars could only seduce 1 in 10 company car drivers.

“Due to the recently changed tax policy, the fully electric cars will gain even more market share during the second half of the year.”

Yves Ceurstemont, Arval Mobility Observatory

Number 1 remains number 1, but BEVs are moving up

As in 2022, the most popular commercial vehicle is the BMW X1 plug-in hybrid, thanks to very low CO2 emissions. The next four cars – the VW iD.4, which just lags behind the Tesla Model Y, the Volvo XC40 and the BMW iX1 – are all fully electrically powered. The entire top 5 are SUVs from the Medium or Large segment.

The entire top 10 is dominated by German brands, with one originally Swedish and one American car manufacturer. Although the latter two have clear ties with China, the technology of the XC40 BEV is shared with other brands by the Volvo parent company Geely and part of the Tesla production takes place in China. “Real” Chinese brands – which often have great ambitions on a global scale and have meanwhile also launched their vehicles in Europe – are currently receiving few orders from Belgian companies and company car drivers.
