How can you prepare your car holiday? You can find a few tips here!

Arval 31 May 2023

The countdown has started: you’ll soon be able to head for the sun again in your car! You've selected the perfect holiday, the ideal accommodation and can’t wait to get started. But how can you make the most of your trip? Prepare well for your departure so that you can avoid pitfalls. We’re pleased to offer you a few tips on how to reach your destination quickly.

  • DEPART SAFELY AND CARE-FREE

    1. Check the general condition of your car:

      • tyre wear and pressures;
      • fluid levels;
      • mirror adjustment;
      • operation of the lights (indicators, headlamps and other lights).
    2. Take the identity documents of all family members, your driving license and the valid vehicle documents (e.g. white card) with you.
    3. Is the mandatory equipment present in your car? Make sure you have a safety triangle, first-aid box, fire extinguisher and hi-viz vests.
    4. Take face masks and hand sanitiser with you.
    5. Are you taking your four-legged friend with you on holiday? If so, don't forget the European passport.
    6. Distribute the luggage evenly across the car and so that nothing can shift. A badly loaded car poses a danger on the road!
    7. Consider a roofbox or trailer if you are taking a very large amount of luggage.
    8. Don't forget that you need a suitable luggage carrier for electric bicycles.
    9. Have sunglasses, a bottle of water and something to eat for yourself and the other passengers to hand.
    10. Take a few books and games with you to keep the children entertained during the journey.
    11. Build in sufficient breaks to rest and have something to eat.
  • Are you travelling abroad?

    1. If applicable: check your employer's Car Policy. Are you allowed to take the car abroad?
    2. Has your country of destination, and the countries you will be travelling through, opened their borders to foreign tourists? Take a look at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for more information about the situation in each country
    3. What are the traffic rules in the country you are travelling to and the countries you will be crossing? Avoid fines and make sure you are well informed. You can find all the information you need about mobility and traffic regulations in European countries through this link. Select a country and then click on ‘Driving in...’.
    4. Is your country of destination, and countries you travel through, not listed on your white insurance card? Then get in touch with our insurance department (if this is included in your lease contract) or with your own insurance company.
    5. Request your Drive Certificate if you are travelling outside the Schengen Area or the EU. Make this request through www.rentadrive.org. It will take three to five working days
    6. Are you traveling to Morocco, Tunisia or Turkey? Keep in mind that specific conditions apply at customs, which may cause you problems in repatriating people or the vehicle in case of immobilization.
    7. Find the nearest filling station abroad by using the NFC website or app, if you have an NFC card.
    8. Do you drive an electric vehicle? If so, find the nearest charging station by using the Luminus Public Charging or Numobi Charging app if you have an charging card.

  • Don’t forget to download the ‘My Arval Mobile’ app

    This app gives you all the information you need on your leased car. A single click puts you in touch with Arval Driving Experience, giving you immediate access to:

    • all the essential details and documents for your car (authorisation to drive the car and the green card if you are insured through Arval);
    • other documents that can be downloaded, such as your driving licence or registration certificate;
    • a map showing service partners nearby; and
    • an overview of the maintenance and/or repair history of your car.
    • Report your expenses via the app. This way we can process them faster and you will be reimbursed faster
    • Request assistance via the app. When you click on Arval Assistance, you will be directed to the Touring website. This allows you to quickly request an intervention.

  • If you break down along the way

    Call Arval Assistance on +32 2 245 73 72 or your own breakdown assistance service (if no assistance is included in your contract). Store the assistance service number and the European emergency number (112) in your phone to avoid stress.

    Do you need assistance abroad? If so, ask the garage to get in touch with the Arval unit in the country where you are located to settle invoicing. Arval will pay the costs of repair, and in most cases you will not have to make any advance payment yourself.
